MLB’s “Summer Camp” is due to begin this week, and the Yankees and Mets handed in their preliminary preseason player pools over the weekend ahead of baseball’s deadline.
On the Yankees’ side, the pool stands at 58 players, as the team placed RHP Luis Severino on the 60-day injured list (he will not pitch this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery) and kept RHP Domingo German on the restricted list as he serves the remainder of his suspension under the league’s domestic violence policy.
With the player pool of 58, that means the Yankees added 19 non-roster invitees, with the “surprises” coming in the fact that the Yankees announced when revealing the pool that they have signed infielder Matt Duffy and catcher Max McDowell, who were not with the organization when spring training was suspended, to minor-league deals and added them to the pool.
