When it rains, it pours. That's true in life, and in baseball.
The Yankees have only played one series of the 2019 season, but injuries are already starting to take their toll on the team. Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the injured list earlier on Monday, and he was joined by another teammate later in the evening.
According to Jack Curry of YES Network, Miguel Andujar is being placed on the IL with a shoulder injury. Tyler Wade will be called up as his replacement.
Andujar suffered a right shoulder strain during Sunday's loss to the Orioles after he slid back into third base following a pickoff attempt. Tests are still being conducted to determine the severity of the issue.
The 24-year-old joins a lengthy injury list that already includes Jacoby Ellsbury, Didi Gregorius, Luis Severino, Dellin Betances, CC Sabathia, Aaron Hicks and Stanton.
New York has started the year 1-2, but this wave of injuries will probably be more concerning to manager Aaron Boone than the losing record.
Andujar was a Rookie of the Year finalist in 2018, hitting 27 homers with 92 RBI along with a .297 average in 149 games.
