Neil Glat has stepped down as New York Jets president, the team announced on Friday.
Glat served as team president since April 2012, and will shift into a senior adviser role with the Jets moving forward.
"I want to thank The Johnson Family for giving me an amazing opportunity to be part of their truly special organization," Glat said in an official statement. "Woody and Christopher are terrific leaders, and were outstanding mentors to me. I am extremely grateful to the both of them. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to all the outstanding people who are part of the Jets family. There's never a good time to leave, but it's the right time for me to take on new challenges."
He was heading into his eighth season as Jets president before the decision was made to step down. Glat is credited with his significant contributions to the team, notably the Jets' revamped uniforms they will wear beginning this season. The Jets have yet to introduce Glat's successor, but will announce the team's next steps "in the coming days."
New York opens its season at MetLife Stadium against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 8.
