Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley might be dealing with more than the groin injury suffered in their season opener over a month ago. Mosley's return to the Jets' defense Monday night didn't go as well as planned, now it appears his disappointing first season with Gang Green may have hit another snag.
According to WFAN's Brian Costello, Mosley didn't practice Wednesday as doctors conduct a "deep dive" to figure out what's bothering the high-priced linebacker.
"Doctors are doing a really deep dive, just trying to figure out where things are coming from," Jets head coach Adam Gase said while speaking to reporters Wednesday. "It might just be more than the groin. We're trying to figure all that stuff out."
In March, the Jets signed Mosley to a five-year, $82.5-million contract to lead their defense. Mosley's Jets' career started strong with two takeaways and a touchdown in Week 1, but the linebacker injured his groin during the third quarter, causing him to miss the next four games.
Mosley was on the field for the Jets Monday night against the Patriots, but the linebacker didn't have his usual speed, power and defensive impact. For the first time in 79 career games, Mosley was unable to record a tackle.
With the score out of reach, coaches removed their star linebacker for the game's final 14 snaps. Mosley's four missed games this season are already more than he had in his entire career prior to joining the Jets (three), and it appears the DNP's might continue.
"We just got to get with the doctors," Gase added. "Once we get all the facts of what's going on with his body, sit down and figure out what's the best thing to do going forward, where are we at, what can we do for him, how can we help him?"
Neville Hewitt, who stepped in as the Jets Mike linebacker while Mosley was out, continues to rehab from neck and knee injuries. Hewitt was limited during Wednesday's practice.
