The New York Rangers acquired forward Julien Gauthier from Carolina in exchange for defenseman Joey Keane on Tuesday.
Gauthier, 22, has played in 44 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. He's scored 26 goals and 11 assists (37 points), along with 34 penalty minutes. He ranks fourth in the AHL in goals in 2019-20.
He made his NHL debut on Oct. 11, 2019, against the New York Islanders, and he tallied his first career NHL assist/point on Dec. 14, 2019, at the Calgary Flames.
Gauthier helped Team Canada earn a silver medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, finishing with seven points (five goals, two assists) in seven games during the tournament.
Keane has played in 49 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this season, registering eight goals and 22 assists (30 points). He was selected by the Rangers in the third round, 88th overall, of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
