Any reasonable person would expect that the 2019 New York Jets season couldn’t get any worse after Monday night’s debacle at MetLife in a 33-0 loss to the division rival New England Patriots.

Well, here we are.

Jets Guard Kelechi Osemele has not played or practiced with the team since their Week 3 loss at New England with a shoulder injury. Osemele claims he originally suffered the injury during an August training camp and reinjured it during that Patriots game.

Naturally, Osemele wants to have surgery. Problem: the team hasn't approved him for it. Osemele said Wednesday that he will be having the surgery Friday, with or without approval from the team.

He claims he’s spoken to three different doctors including the Jets team doctor and all three have said he needs to have the surgery. The team has fined him $580,000, a game check, for each week he doesn't practice. On Wednesday, he also sent over the full report from the third doctor to the team.

As reported by the Associated Press, the team believes the injury is pre-existing and since he had already been cleared to play, Osemele should play through it and potentially have surgery in the offseason.

"Honestly, I haven't even been looking [at the fines>," Osemele said, via Mollie Walker of the New York Post. "I'm not even concerned about the money, right now I'm concerned about my health. Yes [it is a lot of money>, but I've made a lot of money in my career. I'm not one of those people who does sh-t for money at this point in my life. My health is important to me, it's really about that."

Osemele and Gase apparently haven't spoken in weeks.

The NFLPA released a statement coming to the defense of Osemele.

Gase didn't speak to Osemele, but he did address the matter with reporters Thursday morning.

The Jets acquired Osemele from the Raiders via trade back in March. Mike Maccagnan, who was the General Manager at the time of the trade, is no longer with the team. He was replaced by Joe Douglas in June. Osemele has two years remaining on his 5-year, 60 million contract originally signed with Oakland in 2016.

Gang Green takes on the Jaguars in Jacksonville Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Safe to say Osemele won't be on the field anytime soon in Green and White.
