Janoris Jenkins was clearly frustrated after the Giants’ 28-14 loss to the Bills.
The veteran cornerback let it all out when he spoke to the press following the defeat on Sunday. After a brutal day for the defense, he criticized his team’s lack of a pass rush by rhetorically asking “who can cover somebody for 10 seconds?”
Apparently, the head coach didn’t like what Jenkins had to say. On Monday, Pat Shurmur said he called Jenkins into his office to talk about what the veteran said after the loss.
Shurmur justified the meeting by saying he wanted to make sure “everybody is saying the right thing.” He added that he didn’t think Jenkins’ complaints reflected well on the player.
The Giants absent pass rush allowed Josh Allen substantial time to make his decisions in the pocket. Thus, the young quarterback managed to complete 19 out of his 30 attempted passes for 253 yards and a touchdown. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott had even more success against New York in Week 1.
Shurmur’s response to Jenkins could bring about more criticism for the head coach, who is also taking flack for refusing to bench Eli Manning for Daniel Jones.
New York will need the pass rush, and everyone else, to play a lot better next weekend in Tampa Bay.
