New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur is 9-22 in two seasons with the team. They wrap up their 2019 season versus the 8-7 Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium. With the Giants being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, sitting at 4-11 this year, the team has now missed the postseason in seven of the last eight seasons since winning Super Bowl 46 back in 2011.
Thursday afternoon, Shurmur was asked whether he thinks the Giants are closer to the playoffs at the end of this season than they were at the final game of last season.
After nine straight losses for the Giants (making them win-less for all of October, November and the first two weeks of December), Shurmur's team has rattled off two straight victories and could have a third versus the Eagles Sunday that would knock Philadelphia out of playoff contention.
It's a tough time to be on the sidelines or dugout in New York sports. Managers/ head coaches Mickey Callaway (Mets), David Fizdale (Knicks) and Jon Hein (Devils) were all given the pink slip in their respective team's offseason. Shurmur could very well be the next one to join this list.
