Pete Alonso Really Wants Mets to Bring Back Black Uniforms

Whenever the MLB season returns, Pete Alonso wants the Mets to be back in black.

The first baseman continued to advocate bringing back the black Mets uniforms that the team wore in the late 1990s and 2000s before ditching them after the 2011 season.

"The black unis are the dopest! No cap. It would be a mentality and attitude," Alonso tweeted above a graphic displaying the black uniform. "The orange and blue accents are like the city lights in the sky. So many Mets greats wore the black. My only question is: why not?"

Alonso has been pushing for the organization to bring back the black uniforms ever since teammate Marcus Stroman tweeted a picture of Pedro Martinez in the black uniform in November.

Since then, Alonso has proposed the team wear the black uniforms on Friday nights, and others in addition to him and Stroman also seem to be on board.

Dominic Smith and J.D. Davis also threw their support behind the idea on SNY's "The Cookie Club" show.

"I mean, the old-school black, that's obvious," Smith said. "Like that should already be in the rotation."

Alonso already wielded some influence over Mets uniforms during his rookie season last year.

The slugger skirted MLB's approval and had custom-made cleats designed to honor first responders on the anniversary of 9/11 for all of his teammates.

Alonso may need some more assistance from the team in this scenario, though, but the 25-year-old fan favorite certainly has some influence and maybe the organization will listen.
