Pete Alonso's assault on the record books continued Friday night with the Mets slugger tying the MLB record for most home runs by a rookie.
Alonso hit his 52nd homer to tie the mark set by Aaron Judge of the Yankees in 2017. The Mets rookie belted the record-tying homer in the 1st inning against the Braves on a missile just over the wall in left field.

— MLB (@MLB) September 27, 2019Last month, Alonso broke the National League rookie home run record by hitting his 40th, surpassing Dodgers star Cody Bellinger's 2017 total.
The Mets' first baseman later set the franchise's single-season homer record with his 42nd, besting the mark that was shared by Carlos Beltran (2006) and Todd Hundley (1996).
Alonso, who won the Home Run Derby on the eve of the All-Star Game, leads the major leagues in homers this season. He is attempting to become the first rookie to win the major league home run title outright -- the Oakland A's Mark McGwire in 1987 and the Brooklyn Superbas' Tim Jordan in 1906 tied for the lead.
The last rookie to win the National League home run title was Pittsburgh's Ralph Kiner in 1946. He hit 23.
