Report: Phillies In 'Hot Pursuit' Of Girardi

Joe Girardi has no doubt he'll be managing in Major League Baseball next season, with expectations of soon finding out which uniform he'll be wearing. While Mets' fans view Girardi as their most popular choice to wear orange and blue, the Phillies might be the leading candidate to land the former Yankees manager.

During an interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa Tuesday, Girardi still considered three teams as a potential landing spot, but didn't name names. One team Girardi interviewed with in recent weeks, the Chicago Cubs are no longer a potential destination after announcing former catcher David Ross as their new manager Wednesday morning. Shortly after Ross was named the Cubs manager, SNY's Andy Martino reported Girardi's camp expects clarity on his job search soon. According to Martino, while the Mets remain a possibile destination for Girardi, the Phillies are in "hot pursuit."

Joe Girardi's camp expects resolution soon. Not counting out Mets completely, but Phillies in hot pursuit

Martino's report reflects what Girardi said during an interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa Tuesday. "I think there will be more clarity with it pretty soon," Girardi told Francesa. "You're not supposed to announce anything in the World Series but I believe I might have an idea before that."

Earlier in the week Martino reported a possible "bombshell" candidate could be in the mix for the Mets job. If Girardi does join the Phillies, Mets' fans will be in hot pursuit of finding out who the mystery candidate is.
