Watch out Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones, there’s a new quarterback in New York. His name is Matt McGloin.
The former Oakland Raider is the new signal caller for the XFL’s New York Guardians. Each of the league’s eight teams was assigned a quarterback Tuesday.
He also won the Burlsworth Trophy in 2012, awarded to the most outstanding FBS college football player who began his career as a walk-on.
Skills Player Selection
With their first-round selection in the skill position draft, the Guardians selected wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey.
As a senior at Purdue, Yancey, now 24, was a second-team All-Big Ten selection. He totaled 2,344 career receiving yards and 20 receiving touchdowns during his collegiate career.
Yancey was selected in the fifth round (pick 175) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent time with the Green Bay Packers (2017-18), New York Jets (2018-19) and Tennessee Titans (2019). Yancey, however, never played in an NFL game.
