EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WFAN) -- The Giants have said they're not shopping Odell Beckham Jr., yet they've reportedly set their price.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants are asking for two first-round draft picks for the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Giants have asked for at least two first-round picks in return for Odell Beckham Jr., a league source tells ESPN, even though team insists it is not shopping him.Doesn't mean they get it, or close to it, or even trade OBJ. But they have asked for at least two first-round picks.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 28, 2018On Tuesday, Giants co-owner John Mara told reporters at the NFL owners' meetings in Orlando, Florida: "We're not looking to get rid of him. I'd like him to be a Giant." But he also said he can't guarantee Beckham won't be dealt.
Hours earlier, general manager Dave Gettleman sent mixed messages about Beckham's future with the team. Gettleman said "you don't quit on talent," but when given several opportunities to squash all trade speculation, he declined to do so.
Asked point blank if he wants Beckham back next season, Gettleman said, "I'm not going there." He also said it's his job to "eliminate internal and external distractions."
"Distraction," of course, is a word often linked to Beckham, who was recorded in a recent viral video holding what appeared to be a brown cigarette while he was in bed with a pizza and an aspiring French model who was near a plate with lines of a white substance on it. Beckham was also named last week in a $15 million lawsuit filed by a man claiming he was brutally beaten by the Giant's hired bodyguard and another man.
All of this comes as Beckham is reportedly seeking a new contract that would make him the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver, paying him possibly in the $20 million-a-year range.
Beckham has one year remaining on his rookie contract and is due $8.46 million next season. But according to an NFL Network report Monday, he doesn't plan to step on a football field until he has a new contract.
So the Giants must now decide whether to offer him a megacontract, trade him or try to force him to play out his deal.
The Daily News reported Monday night that the Los Angeles Rams have already expressed their interest in Beckham. A source told the Daily News' Gary Myers in a column published online Tuesday that Beckham has told a couple of Rams players he wants in.
In the first four seasons of his career, Beckham, has amassed 313 receptions for 4,424 yards with 38 touchdowns. Injuries limited him to just four games last season.
While Beckham has not been in trouble with the law during his pro career, he has been no stranger to disciplinary issues. In 2015, he was suspended for one game after he drew three personal fouls in a heated on-field battle with cornerback Josh Norman, then of the Carolina Panthers.
He also has been fined by the NFL on numerous occasions, including after a touchdown celebration last season in which he pretended to be a dog lifting its leg. Beckham also was part of the infamous Giants yacht trip in Florida in January 2017, just days before the team played the Green Bay Packers in a wild-card playoff game.
