The New York Jets found their center.
Former Broncos offensive lineman Connor McGovern agreed to terms on a contract with the New York Jets, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta. The investment isn't a lofty one for general manager Joe Douglas and the Jets. McGovern will earn $27 million across the next three seasons — his contract also includes $18 million guaranteed.
"Couldn’t be more excited to be a Jet," McGovern said on social media. "Hopefully with all the craziness going on we can get to work soon. Excited for big things to come."
The Broncos reportedly have since rescinded their offer to McGovern, according to 9News' Mike Kliss. The Broncos' loss is the Jets' gain. New York fills the void left by center Ryan Kalil, who came out of retirement to sign with the Jets last season.
Douglas' eyes were focused firmly on the Jets' offensive line throughout the two-day legal tampering period. The Jets' general manager remained relatively quiet while AFC East counterparts acted swiftly on the market. When Douglas did make a move, it was to bolster the offensive line.
Former Seahawks lineman George Fant is set to ink a three-year deal. The Jets have also confirmed guard Alex Lewis' return to the team next season on a three-year contract. Douglas is able to turn his attention elsewhere as the offensive line possesses almost an entirely different look from a season ago.
