The New York Jets have a new head coach set to lead them through the 2019 season.
Adam Gase has been hired to take over after four years of Todd Bowles. Jets' CEO and Chairman Christopher Johnson has denied that there is a requirement for Gase to bring the team to the playoffs next season, but expectations could be high if the Jets bring in some big name talent.
There have been plenty of rumblings about the team being interested in Le'Veon Bell. According to a report from the New York Daily News, the Jets won't "break the bank" to sign the star running back.
New York has around 100 million in salary cap space to work with, but the report claims that "there is a level of concern in the building about Bell's motivation if he lands a big payday" and that the Jets "won't adopt a do-whatever-it-takes approach to sign Bell."
Bell is a free agent now after spending the first six years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He sat out the entire 2018 season after refusing to sign the franchise tag that the Steelers placed on him last March. In 2017, Bell rushed the ball a career-high 321 times for 1291 yards and 9 touchdowns. In that same season, he averaged 4.0 yards per carry and also had 85 receptions for 655 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Even if the Jets are interested in Bell, they won't be the only ones. Bell is a prolific running back who is only 26-years-old and should be well-rested after sitting out last season.
If they can sign him to a deal that's good value for the team, then they'll have an ideal partner in the backfield for Sam Darnold. If not, then maybe the team may opt to use the draft to find new blood at running back.
