ORLANDO, Fla. (WFAN) -- The Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. could be headed toward a standoff.

A day after Giants co-owner John Mara said he had grown tired of answering questions about the star receiver's antics and that no player is untouchable in trade talks, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that it is his understanding Beckham "will not set foot on a field without a new contract."

From @gmfb: My understanding is that #Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr will not set foot on a field without a new contract extension agreed to — with the #Giants or any team. ... This comes a day after owner John Mara said no one is "untouchable" in trade talks.

The three-time Pro Bowler has one year remaining on his rookie contract and is set to earn $8.46 million this season. However, he is reportedly seeking a contact that would make him the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver, possibly in the $20 million-a-year range.

Asked about the NFL Network report Monday at the NFL owners' meetings in Orlando, Steve Tisch, the Giants' other co-owner, said: "At the moment, it's hypothetical. We have not been contacted by anyone representing Odell making that comment or suggesting that's something he will do. ... Odell's contract will be negotiated at the appropriate time."

Tisch, who said he hopes Beckham remains a Giant for years to come, revealed that general manager Dave Gettleman and Beckham's representatives "are at the earliest, most premature stages" of contract negotiations.

Meanwhile, the Daily News reported Monday that Big Blue is entertaining offers of a "first-round pick plus," meaning the Giants likely wouldn't require a team to give up two first-round selections for the wideout.

Beckham, of course, did not do himself any favors by being recorded in a viral video holding what appeared to be a brown cigarette while he was in bed with an aspiring French model who had a credit card and a plate with lines of a white substance on it.

Tisch said he hasn't paid much attention to the video, calling it "background noise."

But on Sunday, Mara said he was "disappointed" with Beckham over the video.

"I think too often he allows himself to get put in bad situations, and he needs to use a little better judgment. ... I don't know what was in that video exactly, but I'm tired of answering questions about Odell's behavior and what the latest incident is," Mara said.

Mara said he had already been growing frustrated with Beckham before the video surfaced and said that such incidents are "something you certainly have to take into consideration" when deciding whether to make a long-term commitment to a player."

He said it's possible the Giants will try to make Beckham play on the final year of his rookie deal.

Beckham has been an incredibly productive player in his young career. His 288 receptions through the first three seasons tied an NFL record. Injuries, however, limited him to just four games last season.

While Beckham has not been in trouble with the law during his pro career, he has been no stranger to disciplinary issues. In 2015, he was suspended for one game after he drew three personal fouls in a heated on-field battle with cornerback Josh Norman, then of the Carolina Panthers.

He also has been fined by the NFL on numerous occasions, including after a touchdown celebration last season in which he pretended to be a dog lifting its leg. Beckham also was part of the infamous Giants yacht trip in Florida in January 2017, just days before the team played the Green Bay Packers in a wild-card playoff game.

Meanwhile, Beckham was named last week in a $15 million lawsuit filed by a man claiming he was brutally beaten by Beckham's bodyguard and another man. Beckham did not participate in the alleged fight, but he did not order security to stop, the man, Ishmael Temple, said.

In a statement, Beckham's lawyer, Daniel Daviller, called the lawsuit "frivolous."

"Even though Mr. Temple agrees that Mr. Beckham was in no way involved in the physical altercation, neither as a participate or as an instigator, he nevertheless demanded money from Mr. Beckham and has now filed a meritless suit against him," the statement read.
