Kevin Shattenkirk’s time with the New York Rangers has come to an end.
According to Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post, the Rangers bought out Shattenkirk’s contract on Wednesday. The move marks the end of the 30-year-old defenseman’s disappointing two-year career with the team.
Now the window open, and a source says that #NYR have bought out Kevin Shattenkirk.

July 31, 2019 Shattenkirk signed a four-year, $26.65 million deal in July of 2017. The former Boston University man was one of the most productive defensemen in the league when he came to New York, but his time in the Big Apple was hindered by injuries and a declining team around him. He was never really able to recreate that production at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers can afford to buy-out Shattenkirk because of an abundance of young defensive talent on the roster. Jacob Trouba, Adam Fox and Tony DeAngelo are all younger, more promising right-handed blue liners who can play in his position.
This buyout will save New York over $5 million on the cap this coming season.
