NEW YORK (WFAN) -- According to multiple reports, Patrick Corbin will sign a six-year, $140 million deal with the Washington Nationals.

Corbin was one of the Yankees main targets this offseason. High quality left-handed starting pitchers are tough to come by, but New York will now have to look elsewhere as they continue attempts to reinforce their pitching staff.

In the aftermath of the news breaking about Corbin’s destination, another report, this one from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, claims that the Yankees will now turn their attention to two familiar faces after missing out on Corbin. They'll apparently renew their interest in J.A. Happ and Nathan Eovaldi.

Free-agents Happ and Eovaldi are both steps down in quality from Corbin, but they wouldn't require the six-year deal that Corbin desperately wanted. Missing out on Corbin will be a disappointment for Brian Cashman and the rest of the Yankees’ front-office. Happ and Eovaldi essentially represent a backup plan.

Happ was 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 11 starts for the Bronx Bombers last season. Eovaldi made 12 appearances for the Red Sox last season after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays. He was one of Boston’s World Series heroes after he pitched scoreless innings in Games 1 and 2 and then threw six late innings in a Game 3 that would become the longest game in World Series history.
