The New York Jets are in dire need to improve their offensive line. General manager Joe Douglas, however, likely struck out with a few of the marquee names available during Monday's legal tampering period.
Three of the NFL's top offensive linemen available on the market — Jack Conklin, Graham Glasgow and Joe Thuney — have reportedly found their respective teams for the 2020 season, leaving Douglas and the Jets to scour the market for other options.
Thuney, who has yet to miss a game in the past four seasons, was hit with the Patriots' franchise tag. In a statement, the Patriots maintained their hope to "reach the goal of a long-term agreement" with the offensive guard. Thuney earned $14.781 million last season.
The Jets could still sign Thuney to a contract, but the Patriots have the final say. New England could either match New York's offer or receive two first-round draft picks.
New York was also interested in Glasgow as a backup plan to Thuney and after Conklin inked a three-year, $42 million deal with the Cleveland Browns. According to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, the Jets shifted their sights on acquiring Glasgow, who served as the Lions center for the past two seasons.
Glasgow was the final of the three off of the market when he reached a four-year agreement with the Denver Broncos. He'll earn $44 million throughout the next four seasons, a significant increase from the $2.025 million last season.
NBC Sports named Thuney (1), Conklin (4) and Glasgow (9) as a few of the most notable linemen available this offseason.
How does general manager Joe Douglas move forward to fill the Jets' needs?
The Jets are heavily linked to Washington tackle Trent Williams. According to The Athletic's Connor Hughes, the Jets have been one of the multiple suitors pursuing Williams, who didn't play in 2019.
Hughes also lists 30-year-old guard Greg Van Roten, who spent last season in Carolina, as a potential free agent option. In 2019, Van Roten earned less than $1 million.
