
WICHITA, Kansas (WFAN) -- For the first time in 14 years, Seton Hall will still be alive when the second round of the NCAA tournament tips off.
The Pirates, the eighth seed in the Midwest Region, jumped out to an early double-digit lead and staved off several comebacks in beating ninth-seeded North Carolina State, 94-83, on Thursday.

Seton Hall advances to play top-seeded Kansas on Saturday.
Khadeen Carrington led the Pirates with 26 points, and Desi Rodriguez added 20 points off the bench. Myles Powell had 19 points and nine rebounds.
Eight minutes into the game, Seton Hall led by 11 points, at 25-14. But the Wolfpack kept charging back. They cut the lead to 32-31 on a Markell Johnson layup with eight minutes left in the first half and trailed by just three points a couple of times in the second half.
After a pair of Leenard Freeman free throws cut the Pirates' advantage to 63-60 with 11:39 to play, Seton Hall went on a 12-4 run and stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way.

Allerik Freeman led N.C. State with 36 points. Torin Dorn finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Before Thursday, the Pirates had not won a tournament game since 2004, when they defeated Arizona. They haven't reached the Sweet 16 since 2000.
