Tim Tebow may still someday play in the major leagues. That day just won't be Opening Day 2019.
The Mets on Tuesday reassigned the quarterback-turned-outfielder to their minor league camp. The move comes after Tebow went 4-for-15 (.267) with no home runs and one RBI in eight Grapefruit League games. The Heisman Trophy winner is expected to begin the season with Triple-A Syracuse.
In 84 games last season with Double-A Binghamton, Tebow batted .273 with six homers and 36 RBIs. His season was cut short by a broken hand.

When asked last week by WFAN's Mike Francesa if he expects to be in the big leagues this season, Tebow said: "The goal is to be able to improve every day and be ready if I have the opportunity. I feel like every year, it has shown -- I've made strides. I'm constantly making those improvements and strides. I feel confident."
Despite sending Tebow down, the Mets could still borrow him for major league spring training games over the next two weeks.
In other moves Tuesday, the Mets optioned pitchers Paul Sewald and Jacob Rhame to their minor league camp and reassigned pitcher Arquimedes Caminero, outfielder Rymer Liriano, catcher Ali Sanchez and infielders Andres Gimenez and Dilson Herrera.
