Valentine Holmes is returning to his roots
The Jets released Holmes, a member of the team's practice squad, on Friday, indicating his intention to head back to Australia. Holmes attempted to become one of the few athletes to make the successful transition into football after a successful rugby career.
He signed with the Jets as part of the NFL's International Pathway Program in April. Holmes' achieved his dream to play in the NFL when he appeared in each of the team's four preseason games. He tallied 85 yards on eight catches during the preseason, but was unable to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.
The Townsville, Australia native has since been a part of the practice squad as an 11th man due to an exemption. Holmes, however, decided to end his NFL journey in order to reignite his rugby career.
