You can vote now to help Suzyn Waldman land a spot in the Radio Hall of Fame.
The longtime WFAN personality who went on to become the first full-time female color commentator in Major League Baseball was nominated for the hall last month in the spoken word on-air personality category.
Voting opened Monday. Supporters can vote for Waldman online at RadioVote.com or by texting 80 to 877-370-VOTE. Votes may be cast until July 28. Inductees will be announced Aug. 5 and honored this fall.
In 1987, Waldman was the first live voice heard when WFAN, the first all-sports radio station in the country, launched, and she became a mainstay on the station for 15 years. A midday host and beat reporter for the Yankees and Knicks on WFAN, Waldman won countless awards, including New York Sportscaster of the Year in 1996, the American Women in Radio and TV Star award in 1999, the Alliance for Women in Media Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, the prestigious Gracie Award in 2016 and the International Radio Award in 1989 for her live reporting from the upper deck of Candlestick Park during the San Francisco earthquake.
Radio Ink magazine recently named Waldman one of the most influential women in radio.
Waldman spent three years as the Yankees beat reporter for the YES Network on pregame and postgame shows before becoming John Sterling's partner in the radio booth for Yankees games in 2005. She and Sterling were inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2016.
Radio Hall of Fame inductees in the spoken word on-air personality category are also determined by the hall's nominating committee. The winner of the public vote will count as one of the committee votes.
