WFAN is beginning the new decade with a new lineup.
New York City's iconic sports radio station on Tuesday announced its revamped lineup of shows. The big changes are to the afternoon-drive and midday time slots.
Meanwhile, Mike Francesa remains a part of WFAN with his “Mike’s On” half-hour show airing from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mike will also host occasional special programs and remote broadcasts as well as contributing to other shows on WFAN. Francesa has been a part of WFAN since 1987. He and Chris Russo co-hosted “Mike and the Mad Dog” from 1989-2008, with Mike going solo from 2008-19. Over that period of time, he dominated the ratings for men 25-54.
Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti will begin their third year together as hosts of WFAN and CBS Sports Network’s “Boomer and Gio” show weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. Boomer is now into his 13th year as a host of WFAN’s morning show. The “Boomer and Gio” show is the ratings leader in its prime demographic of men 25-54 for the third straight quarterly rating period.
WFAN’s Steve Somers continues to hold down the “fort” at nights. Steve is a WFAN original from Day 1 — July 1, 1987. He can be heard before and after WFAN's live game coverage of the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets and NFL football.
John Jastremski, known to many as “JJ After Dark,” is the new full-time overnight host, replacing the recently retired Tony Paige. JJ was a former winner of WFAN’s “Fantasy Phenom” contest with the prize being a weekly late night show for a full year on WFAN. Jastremski has been doing part-time work for the past few years on WFAN but is now a welcome addition to the full-time staff.
“This is quite an impressive lineup of talent on WFAN as we remain the one and only place to talk New York sports all day, every day,” said Mark Chernoff, WFAN’s senior vice president of programming. “And combined with our play-by-play of New York Yankees baseball, New York Giants football, Brooklyn Nets basketball and New Jersey Devils hockey, along with a slate of NFL games, we are your flagship station for New York sports.”
The new lineup officially takes effect Thursday, although Francesa's new half-hour show will debut Jan. 6.
