Boone: Judge To Undergo Further Tests

The Yankees are trying to solve the mystery of what's ailing slugger Aaron Judge.

Judge was limited in workouts to start spring training due to what the team described as a minor issue with his right shoulder. He has yet to play in a Grapefruit League game, and on Saturday manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees right fielder felt discomfort near his right pectoral muscle while batting Friday, MLB insider Bryan Hoch reported.

Multiple tests so far have been inconclusive. Judge will undergo more Monday.

"We're trying to get some answers and get to the bottom of everything and won't be too long," Boone told the YES Network during in-game interview from the dugout Saturday.

Boone said he still believes Judge could be ready for opening day.

With about a month to go until the start of the regular season, the Yankees have already experienced more than their fair share of injuries this spring. James Paxton will be sidelined until May or June after undergoing back surgery, Luis Severino is out for the season after having Tommy John surgery, and Giancarlo Stanton is dealing with a strained calf.

Judge himself has struggled to stay healthy since his breakout 2017 season. He missed two months last year with a left oblique strain. A broken wrist sidelined him for 45 games in 2018.
