Yankees Activate Aroldis Chapman, Get Good News on DJ LeMahieu

The Yankees got good news on two injury fronts Monday.

First, they have activated Aroldis Chapman from the COVID-19 injured list, and he is available for Monday night's series finale against the Red Sox.

Second, according to manager Aaron Boone, DJ LeMahieu's imaging showed no structural damage or breaks in his left thumb, and he is expected to only miss a few weeks.

Yankees were told no ligament damage to DJ LeMahieu's thumb, just a sprain with inflammation. No fracture either. Hope is he is back in 2-3 week range.

Chapman has not pitched this season after testing positive for COVID-19 during Summer Camp, but he last threw a 25-pitch simulated game at the team's alternate site in Scranton over the weekend and was declared "almost ready" by Boone.

Zack Britton currently leads MLB with eight saves in eight chances, including one Sunday night, so the Yankees can ease Chapman back into action in a lower-leverage role if they so desire.

RHP David Hale, who had a 3.00 ERA in six innings over five appearances this season, was designated for assignment to open a roster spot for Chapman.
