Austin Wells is officially a New York Yankee!
The former University of Arizona catcher revealed his signing on his Twitter account, Tweeting a picture of him inking his pro contract on Thursday night, and the team officially announced the deal early Friday afternoon.

June 26, 2020 The Yankees do not release terms of their draft signings, but YES Network’s Jack Curry reports that Wells’ bonus was $2.5 million, just above the $2.493 million allocation for his draft slot at No. 28 overall.
The slot value for the 28th pick in the first round was $2,493,900 so that’s essentially what Austin Wells received from Yankees at $2.5M.

Wells is the first of the Yankees’ three draft picks to sign a deal so far, according to MLB.com’s Draft Tracker. Their final two draft spots carry a total value of $1,021,600, so subtracting $7,000 for Wells’ overage, the team has just over $1.01 million – plus a five percent penalty-free overage allowance on their total pool, which adds roughly $176K more – to sign third-round pick Trevor Hauver and fourth-round pick Beck Way.
