A big reason for the Yankees winning 100 games this past season was the performance of its young players.
Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres played signifcant roles in the Bronx this year, as both racked up over 430 at-bats throughout the season.
Despite both infielders enjoying great rookie campaigns, Andujar (second) and Torres (third) fell short of the Angels' two-way star Shohei Ohtani in the Baseball Writers' Association of America's voting for the American League Rookie of the Year award.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was named the National League Rookie of the Year.
Andujar batted .297 in 149 games this past season, accumulating 27 home runs, 47 doubles and 92 RBI in 573 at-bats. The 23-year-old led all MLB rookies in hits (170), doubles, RBI, extra-base hits (76) and multi-hit games (53), all while posting a strong .855 OPS.
The third baseman took home the AL Rookie of the Month award on two occasions, winning the honor in both June and August.
"This year we had a lot of really good young players (in baseball)," Andujar said through a translator following the Yankees' loss to the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS. "I've got to wait and see how the voting goes. Let the best rookie win."
Torres put together a solid rookie season himself, despite the fact that the young infielder was coming off Tommy John surgery on his left (non-throwing) elbow.
After starting the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Torres earned a call-up early in the year. The 21-year-old went on to hit .271 with 24 home runs and 77 RBI in 123 games (431 at-bats).

His stellar first half earned him his first All-Star selection, although Torres was unable to participate in the festivities due to a strained right hip.
Torres won AL Rookie of the Month honors for the month of May.
Ohtani was the favorite to take home this year's AL Rookie of the Year award after his impressive season. The 24-year-old hit .285 with 22 home runs and 61 RBI while posting a .925 OPS in 326 at-bats. In addition to his strong performance at the plate, Ohtani went 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 10 games (51.2 innings) as a powerful right-handed pitcher.
Ohtani was named AL Rookie of the Month in both April and September.
