Carmelo Anthony is on his way out of Oklahoma City.

In an effort to navigate their $310 million payroll and luxury tax bill, the Thunder have agreed to work to part ways with Anthony.

The former Knick, who recently opted into his $27.9 million contract with the Thunder for 2018-19 season, will be ushered out of Oklahoma City after just one season with the team.

Oklahoma City is set to save roughly $100 million by moving Anthony either through trade or the NBA's stretch provision if a trade partner does not become available.

Though Anthony retains a trade veto power, it is likely that a team looking to trade for Anthony would waive him, allowing Anthony to enter free agency.

Anthony struggled to fit into a new, diminished role in OKC that featured the 10-time all-star changing positions to power forward, while playing the fewest minutes of his career.

"I think for me, my focus would be on kind of figuring out what I want out of the rest of my career, what I want in my future, what am I willing to accept, if I'm willing to accept that at all," Antony said in April in regard to his diminished role with the Thunder."

Anthony would likely be an attractive veteran fit to teams in contention for an NBA Championship this season.
