As the Giants decide whether or not to use the No. 2 overall selection on the talented Saquon Barkley, one of the only running backs currently on the roster will be sidelined indefinitely.
According to reports, Paul Perkins needed to have surgery on a pectoral injury suffered while working out on his own prior to the team's offseason program getting underway this month.
A timetable for his return has not been established, but the young back could be facing a recovery timetable of four-to-six months.

Perkins was seen on the sidelines during New York's minicamp this week with his left arm in a sling.
The 23-year-old back carried the ball 112 times for 456 yards (4.1 yards per carry) during his rookie season in 2016, adding 15 receptions for 162 yards.
Perkins did not see the field as much during his sophomore campaign, totaling just 90 yards on 41 carries while recording eight receptions for 46 yards.
Perkins, second-year back Wayne Gallman, and veteran Jonathan Stewart are the only running backs on the Giants' current roster.
