The New York Mets are preparing for a difficult push toward the postseason, and first baseman Pete Alonso is at the forefront to rally the troops.
On Wednesday, Alonso penned a message on Twitter to Mets faithful highlighting the team's goal to "make history."
"Mets fans. Thank you guys so much for your unwavering support," Alonso wrote. "You guys have been unreal all year. We are in crunch time. We've played over 2 weeks more on the road than at home thus far. During the months of August and September, we're going to have a ton more home games.
"The boys are hot and we've been working our a*** off. Hard work has been really paying off this second half. The rest of the season is going to be a really fun, wild and memorable ride.
"Our goal is to make history. We strive every day to be great and nothing less."

— Pete Alonso (@Pete_Alonso20) July 31, 2019Now, the odds for Alonso and the rest of the team to make it to the postseason isn't in their favor. They have a mere 4.3% chance to clinch a playoff spot, according to Baseball Reference. There's always a chance, however, to achieve the nearly impossible.
The Mets (51-55) sit in fourth place in the NL East as they approach Wednesday's trade deadine. The chances to claim the division crown is slim. They trail the first-place Braves by 11 games, a tall task to overcome with the Phillies and Nationals lurking as well.
The NL wild card seems to be the most opportune way for the Mets to sneak into the postseason. They are five games behind the Phillies and Cubs for the second wild-card spot. However, with Tuesday night's win over the White Sox, the Mets are trending in an ideal direction.
New York has won seven of its last 10 games, inching closer toward the .500 mark. Marcus Stroman's arrival from Toronto and reports of Noah Syndergaard remaining with the team vividly signal a win-now mentality for the Mets.
Alonso ended his message by inviting Mets fans to become a part of history
"We need you guys, the fans, more than ever for these last two months," Alonso said. "Together, let's be a part of history. LFGM."
