Mets' Pete Alonso Shares His Vision of 2020 MLB Season

mlb

Don't get him wrong: Pete Alonso loves playing at Citi Field and playing in New York in general.

However, if the proposed idea of playing out the 2020 MLB season in Arizona is the only option that allows for the resumption of baseball, Alonso is all for it.

Appearing in Monday morning's episode of Get Up! on ESPN, Alonso said that he thought the Arizona league was a good idea and shared his specific vision of how it could unfold. He proposed that if each complex could hold six teams on a given day, then three games including all six clubs could be played at 11:00 am, 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with the field getting washed in between each contest.

Of course, he also shared that he loves playing in New York and at Citi Field, but if the Arizona concept is the only way for baseball to get going, he's certainly not opposed to the idea.

A season played out in Arizona, originally proposed between the league and the union in early April, received a lot of attention and brought a ton of hype from fans and media outlets. However, MLB tempered expectations saying that while the concept had been floated around, there had not been any sort of definite plan in place as of yet. Various obstacles, including the loss of massive ticket sales revenue, could potentially stand in the way of such a proposal coming to fruition.

Dr. Anthony Fauci was one of many figures who actually gave the idea some credibility, saying that if these games occurred without crowds and that social distancing measures were appropriately exercised, then some sort of baseball season could come into shape.

While the MLB hiatus continues to keep fans and players eagerly awaiting any news updates, several sports figures have been keeping busy in various philanthropic ways during the stay-at-home crisis. Alonso additionally detailed how he's helping the cause, as he will take part in the "All-In Challenge" sponsored by Fanatics by offering a fishing trip with him and his friend throughout Tampa Bay.
