Mekhi Becton is a hulking figure on the offensive line, standing at 6'7" and weighing in at 368 pounds, all while clocking a seemingly impossible 5.10 40-yard dash time.
But when the Jets took him with the 11th overall pick in order to bolster Sam Darnold's protection, all those numbers and statistics couldn't stop "Boomer and Gio" co-host Gregg Giannotti from feeling a little "bummed".
"The whole drug test thing, that doesn't bother me," Gio said, referencing Becton's flagged drug test at the NFL combine which the lineman called a one-time mistake. "They were tantalizing me with the wide receivers."
At the time, a grand total of zero wide receivers had been selected. The Raiders followed by drafting Alabama WR Henry Ruggs with the 12th pick, before Jerry Jeudy was taken by the Broncos and CeeDee Lamb shockingly fell right into the lap of the pleasantly surprised Dallas Cowboys, who snagged him at 17.
However, after listening to former quarterback Phil Simms, who joined Boomer and Gio for the show, Gio warmed up to the idea of such a monster on the line.
"The great thing about this -- same thing with the Giants -- it kind of fills their offensive line out," Simms said. "It's okay, it's not great, but it's much better than it was last year, especially if Alex Lewis is healthy and back to 100%.
"(He's) athletic as can be... outside linebackers, small defensive ends, he runs them over."
The three hosts then reacted to some wild highlights of Becton playing college basketball and blowing up defenders in their attempts to rush the quarterback.

— Hudl (@Hudl) April 24, 2020The Jets will have three selections on day two, with the 48th, 68th and 79th pick. A wide receiver is expected to be a position that Joe Douglas addresses, and the prospect pool remains extremely deep with guys like Denzel Mims, K.J. Hamler, Laviska Shenault, Michael Pittman Jr. and Tee Higgins still on the board.
