Odell Beckham Jr. may have left town, but another talented Giants wide receiver looks to be here to stay.
According to a report from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Giants are close to signing Sterling Shepard to a four-year, $41 million contract extension. Shepard would have been eligible for free agency after the 2019 season, but is now set to commit his future to New York.
Source: The #Giants are finalizing a four-year, $41 million extension with WR Sterling Shepard, source says. Their longest-tenured receiver is now their highest-paid. Strong deal for Shepard, who gets more than what most free agent WRs got this spring.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 10, 2019After Beckham's departure, Shepard is now New York's longest-tenured wideout. The Oklahoma alum was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
In 2018, Shepard managed 872 yards and four touchdowns on 66 receptions. Those numbers should go up as he takes up the mantle of being the team's No. 1 wide receiver for the 2019 campaign.
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the report, and added that Shepard's new deal will include $21.3 million in guaranteed money.
It's still unclear whether Shepard and company will be catching passes from Eli Manning next season, or whether the Giants will attempt to find a new franchise quarterback in this April's draft.
