
WICHITA, Kansas (WFAN) -- Seton Hall went down fighting in the second round of the NCAA tournament, especially seniors Angel Delgado and Khadeen Carrington.
Kansas, the top seed in the Midwest Region, survived the eighth-seeded Pirates 83-79 on Saturday night to advance to the Sweet 16.
Seton Hall got 24 points, 23 rebounds and five assists from Delgado, its center. His rebound total was the third highest by any player in the tournament since 1973. Carrington, meanwhile, finished with 28 points, including 13 straight Pirates points in the final 1:06 the game.
Malik Newman led the Jayhawks with 28 points. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk had 16 points, Lagerald Vick scored 13, and Udoka Azubuike added 10 off the bench.
Next up for Kansas (29-7) will be the winner of Sunday's Clemson-Auburn game.
Seton Hall (22-12) led by as many as four points in the first half, but trailed 31-26 at halftime.
The Jayhawks appeared to be pulling away in the second half, going up by 13 on a Vick 3-pointer with 12:21 left. But the Pirates kept chipping away at the lead and trailed by just three points a couple of times in the game's final seconds.
Kansas, however, held on by going 10-of-10 from the free-throw line in the last minute.
Seton Hall reached the round of 32 by beating North Carolina State 94-83 in the first round Thursday, the program's first NCAA tournament win in 14 years. The Pirates, appearing in the Big Dance for the third consecutive year, were trying to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2000.
