Yankees' Betances To Begin Season On Injured List

By WFAN.com

The season has yet to begin, but the Yankees are already dealing with a surplus of injuries.

General manager Brian Cashman spoke to the media Tuesday afternoon and announced that Dellin Betances would be starting the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury.

An MRI revealed that Betances has been suffering from right shoulder impingement, likely leading to the pitcher's decrease in velocity this spring.

The soon-to-be 31-year-old pitcher will be treated with anti-inflammatories, and while Cashman would not give a timetable for his return, the GM did say he does not expect it to be a lengthy injury.

Betances also met with the media, saying he's "not concerned at all" about his shoulder issue. The 6-foot-8 pitcher said he will be shut down for 3-5 days before resuming his throwing.

The relief pitcher appeared in 66 games last season, earning a 2.70 ERA and 1.050 WHIP with 115 strikeouts and 26 walks in 66.2 innings.

Betances was named to the All-Star team every year from 2014-2017.

Betances will join Luis Severino, Aaron Hicks and CC Sabathia on the Injured List to start the season.
