Yankees Injury Roundup: Luke Voit Hopes To Return 'In A Couple Of Weeks'

Before the Yankees' won their matinee matchup against the Orioles Monday, Luke Voit provided an encouraging sign for the team.

Voit participated in a few running drills in his attempt to return from a lingering sports hernia injury. The Yankees' slugger was placed on the Injured List on June 31. He was conflicted with the decision to whether or not undergo a season-ending surgery to repair the damage. 

With the latest development, the 28-year-old seems to be on the track to ultimately return to the Yankees' lineup in the coming weeks.

"I think the hitting part will be easy," Voit told The New York Post. "Obviously my timing and everything will be a big thing. Sprinting was the biggest thing for me and today it felt really good. I got a good work in last week and everything is pointing in the right direction."

Voit was enjoying a career year in his first full season with New York before the injury forced him to the IL. He's already set career-high marks in hits (97) and RBI (54) while batting .278. 

Severino, who's yet to pitch an inning this season, threw a bullpen session on Monday.

The former All-Star, who led the Yankees with 19 wins last year, was placed on the 60-day IL as he deals with rotator cuff inflammation and a lat strain. He just began throwing from the mound last Friday, but it's a postive sign for the Yankees rotation. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters he thought Severino "looked really strong" during his session. 

Voit and Severino are merely two of the handful of Yankees currently sidelined with an injury. 

Dellin Betances, sidelined with a lat strain, has yet to pitch at all this season. He threw a 20-pitch bullpen session with another session scheduled for Thursday, according to YES' Meredith Marakovits. Team doctors reportedly revaluated outfielder Aaron Hicks this afternoon. Hicks was placed on the 10-day IL with a right flexor strain.
