The Yankees will be without their surprising first baseman, Luke Voit, for a while.
The Bronx Bombers placed Voit on the 10-day injured list Tuesday retroactive to June 30. The 28-year-old slugger suffered an abdominal strain in the Yankees' 17-13 win over the Boston Red Sox in London.
Through 78 games this season, Voit is hitting .280 with 17 home runs and 50 RBIs.
The Yankees also announced they have optioned right-handed pitcher Chance Adams to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yanks, who open a two-game series against the Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday night, have recalled left-handed reliever Nestor Cortes Jr. and infielder Mike Ford from the minors.
