The Yankees have signed veteran reliever Trevor Rosenthal to a minor league contract, WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman confirmed.
Rosenthal was one of baseball's more dependable relievers with the St. Louis Cardinals a few years ago, but he has struggled to return to his old form since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2017.
After missing all of last season, the 29-year-old former closer had a 13.50 ERA over 22 appearances with the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers. Washington released the right-hander in June, and he opted for free agency after Detroit designated him for assignment earlier this month.
In six seasons with the Cardinals from 2012-17, Rosenthal appeared in 328 games and had a 2.99 ERA with 121 saves. He recorded 45 saves in 2014 and 48 saves in 2015, when he made his only All-Star Game appearance
Fan Source Network's Andersen Pickard was the first to report on the signing Tuesday.
WFAN is the flagship station of the Yankees. Tune in to 660 AM or 101.9 FM this season to hear all the action.
