Wally Szczerbiak On WFAN: Top Free Agents Would Follow Zion Williamson To Knicks

Zion Williamson could be the key that unlocks a bright future for the Knicks, basketball analyst Wally Szczerbiak told WFAN's "Boomer and Gio" on Monday.

"I just think getting a guy like Zion Williamson is huge because once you get that attraction, then it starts to be like the buzz starts to come at Madison Square Garden," the former NBA star told WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti. "And we all know when Madison Square Garden is electric, whether it's Knicks or Rangers, it is the place to be."

Szczerbiak, who works for MSG Networks and CBS Sports Network, said some of the top players expected to be in this summer's free-agent class could be enticed to sign with the Knicks if the team lands Williamson, the 18-year-old power forward from Duke, with the top pick in the NBA draft.

"Once you hear a guy like Zion's coming, then it starts to be like, 'All right, where do I sign?'" he said.

If the pingpongs bounce the Knicks' way next week, they might also consider dealing the top pick to the New Orleans Pelicans for disgruntled big man Anthony Davis.

Szczerbiak said he believes that would be a mistake.

"I just think Zion is going to be the next LeBron James," he said. "I just think he's that good. I've never seen a human being move like that on the basketball court and jump that high on a basketball court."
