Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton spoke with "The Afternoon Drive" on Monday and laid out the Rangers' plan to rebuild.
Gorton said his blueprint centers around putting together a fast, exciting and skilled team.
"That's how we've had success over the last 10 years, so that's what we want to get back to, and even go another level from that," he said.
Gorton expects the upcoming draft to be pivotal in achieving that.
"We have three first-round picks and some second rounds and some thirds for the first time in a while, so it gives us a lot of picks in a lot of areas to help improve our team in a short period of time," he said. "We're hopeful that this draft can help be part of that rebuild real quick."
Two days after the Rangers fired coach Alain Vigneault, Gorton said he plans to cast a fairly wide net in the search for his replacement.
"I don't know how many, but we'll talk to probably more than 10 people just to get a feel for what's out there, but really interview and dial into? I would say the number is probably between five and 10."
