The roller coaster ride that is the 2019 Mets season continued this past week.
After winning six of seven contests to get back to .500 merely a week ago, New York left for the team's seven-game road trip out west with some positive momentum.
Unfortunately for the Mets, those good feelings did not last long.
New York went on to lose three of four against the Dodgers before dropping two of three against the Diamondbacks. To make matters worse, the road trip featured a few blown saves and an overall brutal performance by the bullpen.
Mike Francesa opened Monday's show with some thoughts on the team's disappointing trip out west, which he believes is an appropriate way to describe the Mets' season in general.
"The trip could have been very different," Francesa said on New York's horrid week. "Instead of 2-5, it easily could have been 4-3. It should have been 4-3. There were two games they just gave away out of the bullpen. They gave away big leads. They gave away 5-1 leads and 8-3 leads in games... It changed the Dodgers series and it changed the Diamondbacks series, and it's got to stop.
"This team, while you can lay a lot of it on the bullpen, this team does what bad teams do, and that is come up short in the area that is going to fail them that night. If they hit, they don't pitch. If they pitch, they don't hit. If they do both, they don't field or they make a dumb play on the base paths... they do what losing teams do - they find a way to lose."
