Ric Bucher: Knicks Will Name Tom Thibodeau Head Coach "Within A Week Or So"

Is the New York Knicks' coaching search over?

NBA analyst Ric Bucher joined WFAN's Moose & Maggie Show on Wednesday morning, and predicted some big news coming the Big Apple's way in the next few days.

"I would expect that in the next week or so, we'll get an announcement that Tom Thibodeau will be the next head coach of the New York Knicks," Bucher said. "(Knicks President) Leon Rose is new to the position and is interviewing a lot of people; initially when I heard that, I wondered if the bloom had come of the rose on Thibs, but he's been the leader in the clubhouse since the start."

The Knicks have reportedly had a number of names, up to perhaps a dozen, either in for interviews or named as potential candidates, ranging from veterans like Thibodeau and Kenny Atkinson to long-time assistants from other teams.

One name that has been ballyhooed by many but not semi-officially by the Knicks is ex-Bocker Mark Jackson, and Bucher may have some insight into why.

"I think they're doing him the courtesy of, we've already decided but we want to pick the brains of a few names around the league," Bucher said. "For a guy like Leon Rose who has never been in that position before, why not learn as much as you can? Guys want to impress, even if it's not a completely open competition. You get to look into everybody's playbook, and I think that's a smart move."

Bucher also dished on the Knicks' retention of Scott Perry, the team's hiring of William "World Wide Wes" Wesley as a consultant, and much more on the 'Bockers as well as the NBA bubble, which you can listen to by going to the RADIO.COM app and using the rewind function.
