Moose and Maggie's Mystery Guest: 7/16/2020

On Thursday, Moose and Maggie's Mystery Guest presented by Jersey Mike's brought some Florida sunshine (and sunsets) to the 1 p.m. hour on WFAN.

Thursday's Mystery Guest told Moose & Maggie he was calling from Florida, and that he was a baseball analyst – but not on TV or radio, instead one that could help you get through the morning. When Moose asked what paper the guest wrote for and the response was "I now work for a website," Marc Malusis easily identified the guest as…

Kevin Kernan!

Yes, it was "America's Most Beloved Sportswriter," as Kernan is known as on Twitter, who joined Moose and Maggie to kick off their final hour with a discussion about his cookbook and calendar-worthy Twitter feed.

"Keep the pics of the sunsets on the beach coming, and I've never seen someone tweet out pictures of meals more like Kevin Kernan!" Moose laughed, after Kernan mentioned that "all you had to do was ask what I ate last and you'd know who I was."

The "AMBS" moniker may seem like a haughty one, but it's not entirely off the mark – Kernan has been in the business for more than 40 years, the last 23 at the New York Post before moving to ballnine.com earlier this year, and as Maggie noted, "you're in the background of all of these great sports moments."

"I've always loved life, and I'm still enjoying it!" noted Kernan, whose pinned Tweet is a selfie with the legendary Vin Scully. "Earlier this year, I was watching the last segment of "The Last Dance," and I told my daughter I was at that game. All of a sudden, they pop up to me asking Dennis Rodman a question about this being the best team ever. They kept it all there, with me wearing my Hawaiian shirt! I just had a way of being at all these great events. But I'm old! I'm 67 on July 4, but I love sports, and I've been lucky to see a lot."

Once down to business, Kernan discussed many topics with Moose & Maggie, including the Yankees' future with Aaron Judge – a future that needs to be finalized ASAP in AMBS' mind.

"The future should've been locked up already, in my opinion. I asked him last year if the team had approached him and he said no, but this is what the Yankees do," Kernan said. "I don't think it's a question of them wanting to see if he stays healthy, because a lot of his injuries have been fluky, but I think he will play a little smarter, and everything he brings to that team, this is a guy that should've been signed. There's no downside to signing him long-term, and it would be a great loss to the Yankees if he gets to free agency and goes somewhere else."

You can check out Kernan's entire segment below, and as always, you can check out more on-demand audio from Moose & Maggie, or tune in every day to the WFAN.com livestream of the show!
