Ross Tucker: Jets 'A Best Bet on the Under' of 6.5 Wins

This season, in Ross Tucker’s eyes, J-E-T-S indeed stands for Just End The Season, because even with an over/under at 6.5 wins, Tucker is hammering the under.

During the Tucker’s Take segment on Monday’s “Odds on Sports” with John Jastremski on WFAN, JJ asked Ross if, should the Jets get off to a bad start again, he could see the team start to “mail it in” on noted player-alienator Gase.

“I don’t know if I’d say mail it in, but there’s no question in my mind that if the Jets get off to a bad start, everyone is going to be talking about Adam Gase on the hot seat,” Tucker said. “I do these calls all over the country, and I don’t know a single Jets fan that supports and likes Adam Gase. Maybe it’s different in New York, but the most diehard Jets fans I know, they will support the players and love Joe Douglas, but no one says anything good about Adam Gase.”

JJ then chimed in that “it’s like 90/10, and any time you have a 90/10 disapproval rating, that ain’t a good thing.”

Indeed, and that’s not good for Sam Darnold, either, especially as the third-year signal-caller entering a make-or-break year of his own.

“If they get off to a bad start, it’s going to be all about Gase and the hot seat – and that just adds into the ‘how to ruin a young quarterback bingo,’ just adds into the equation for another bad situation for Sam Darnold,” Tucker said.

And so, even though the Jets went 7-9 last year – a mark that would pay the over on 6.5 wins – Tucker is hammering that under.

“I don’t see how they get there (to seven wins),” he said bluntly. “I don’t think they’ll be favored against any team in the NFC West, we know about the division – it’s between them and the Dolphins to not be last – and even in the AFC West, none of those are easy games. I love the under, and it’s unfortunate.”

Sorry, Jets fans, but in the words of a former WFAN host, this is one where you can ‘la-la-la, la-la-la, lock it up.”

“I know Jets fans don’t want to hear that, but I think they get off to a bad start, and everyone circles around Gase and the whispers start about Darnold, and I think it goes south,” Tucker said. “I don’t think they get to seven wins, and this is one of my best bets that we’ve done so far.”
