One of the men convicted of killing Michael Jordan’s father in 1993 has been granted parole.
Larry Demery, 45, who had been serving a life sentence for the murder of James Jordan, will be released from prison on Aug. 6, 2023, the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission said in a statement, according to the New York Post.
He's being released as part of the Mutual Agreement Parole Program (MAPP). MAPP is a “scholastic and vocational program that is a three-way agreement between the Commission, the Division of Prisons and the offender,” according to the statement.
On July 27, 1993, James Jordan was shot and killed while he slept in his automobile on the side of a North Carolina highway. His body was found days later in a swamp in South Carolina.
Demery and Daniel Green were both convicted of first degree murder in 1996.
Demery had been previously denied parole on two occasions.
Green won’t be eligible for parole until October 2021, Fox News reported.
