Wednesday was a historical day in the sporting landscape as players and teams around the NBA, WNBA, MLS and MLB elected to sit out and boycott playing games as a stance against racial injustice in the United States.
However, one league that continued to play and only made notice of Wednesday's movement with a very brief "Moment of Reflection" was the National Hockey League.
As a result of the NHL's lack of action on the matter, the Hockey Diversity Alliance, headed by San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane and former NHL forward Akim Aliu, made a call to the league to suspend the two scheduled playoff games on Thursday night.
Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba is part of the executive committee for the HDA and also had a very heavy influence on the push towards postponing these playoff games.
This push by the HDA was reportedly enough to influence the players to push the league to make the decision to postpone not only Thursday's two scheduled playoff games, but also the two playoff games set to take place on Friday in Toronto and Edmonton.
The two games that were set to take place on Thursday included the Game 3 matchup between the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers in Toronto, as well as the Vancouver Canucks and Vegas Golden Knights in Edmonton. Friday's matchups were to include Game 4 of the Boston Bruins-Tampa Bay Lightning series in Toronto, followed by Game 4 featuring the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche in Edmonton.
The NHL has not announced how they will reschedule those postponed games, but it's being reported that the league could schedule three games to take place both on Saturday and Sunday.
