Product placements, ads, and live reads are a part of being a sports talk radio host, and they are doubly impactful when the talent wholeheartedly endorses said product and/or service.
Sometimes, though, the process of finding that out can lead to some awkward moments between management and staff, as Gio found out in Tuesday's Moment of the Day.
"I just got an email from (WFAN Program Director Mark) Chernoff asking me if I snore," Gio said, "and he explained to me about an endorsement thing. If I'm ever asked on an email with someone who is unhealthy if I want to endorse something, I start to get self-conscious about it."
Apparently, Marc Malusis was one of the others on that email, which made Gio wonder what was going on in our beloved program director's head…and launch into an impression of the boss.
"So he sent this email to us asking if we snore, here's a potential sponsor," he said. "And instead of me saying yes, cool, that's great, I snore, I'm thinking that Chernoff is sitting there thinking, 'okay, who are the unhealthiest people who are fat and snore…Moose for sure.'"
Eddie Scozzare was on there too, and, well, that was just more fuel for Gio crossing the boss.
"He's probably on some Zoom call like, 'let me think of the fattest people here…Moose, Eddie, can we put Gio in there? He sort of fluctuates, when he's fat he probably snores but when he's skinny he's probably not, but let's put him on there anyway. This would've been great for Carlin!"
All Boomer could do was laugh uncontrollably.
"That is so true!" he snickered. "That's behind the scenes at WFAN to a T!"
