Boomer & Gio get an update from Peter in Maple Shade on his Nick Sirianni situation

It’s always good to get updates on bizarre situations – and the morning show got one on Thursday, as Boomer & Gio caught up with Peter from Maple Shade, aka the guy who called in last month and claimed Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wanted to fight him at a tennis court because Sirianni called out the New York sports gear Peter was wearing.

There’s still wonder, apparently, if Sirianni was joking or not, which is what the Eagles themselves apparently told AP NFL writer Rob Maaddi when he called looking for the scoop.

“I’m getting roasted by WIP saying the story is fraudulent. But it’s not,” Peter said. “I’ll go to a court of law and swear on a stack of Bibles. Rob Maaddi called the Eagles for their reaction, and they didn’t deny anything was said, but said that Sirianni was just busting my chops. That’s a direct quote.”

Peter was apparently a journalist in a former life, working for the Burlington County Times (a local south Jersey paper) as well as in NYC, which led Boomer to joke about making up fake news. But he still says it’s not, and when Gio asked Peter if he expected pushback like he’s been getting from some hosts at our sister station in Philly, he admitted he thought his word was bond.

“No, I really didn’t, because I’m telling the God’s honest truth, and they’re spinning it in Philly that I’m a typical Giants fan and we hate Giants fans, so he’s obviously lying,” Peter told Gio. “I’m not, the whole thing happened! I mean, why would I even make this up?”

Peter knows Philly media and so does Gio, who expected the Philly faithful to come rushing to Sirianni’s defense – which Peter admitted is a good point.

“You’re probably right and make a great point – but you’re fair and balanced and reasonable, and all those guys want to do is make fun of me,” Peter said. “These Eagles nudniks are saying I’m making it up, and all they want to do is belittle me because I’m a Giants fan.”

Boomer asked Peter to think back about it all and think if he could see Sirianni wasn’t serious – but his reasoning is lack of recognition?

“Here’s the thing everyone is missing: I didn’t know it was Nick Sirianni,” Peter said. “If I knew it was him, I’d have busted his chops back and make it light-hearted, but I didn’t realize it was him until later that night. The guy I was across the net from had a little conversation with Sirianni after it happened, and when we were done playing, I asked him who it was, and he said it was an Eagles offensive line coach. So when I went home that night, I searched for pictures, and found him.”

Gio still disagreed with the tone, given that it was a sports-themed piece of attire, and Boomer sees Sirianni as “a guy’s guy who is going to bust balls,” but Peter was staunch.

“If out of the blue someone comes up to you and says they have a problem with what you’re wearing, wouldn’t you get your back up?” Peter asked. “He had a chance to say anything more light-heated to me when he left, but he never did.”

Gio’s conclusion is that Peter “has trouble with verbal clues,” even though Peter is from “the ball-busting capital of the world” in the Bronx, but sadly, the debate rages on – although Peter FINALLY admitted MAYBE he was a little overboard.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have couched it as wanting to fight, but he took steps towards me when I told him to come over if he had a problem with it,” Peter said. “What would you do if that was you?”

Will we hear from Sirianni himself on the subject – perhaps on Boomer & Gio, thanks to Booms’ connection to former teammate and former Sirianni boss Frank Reich?
