Things have certainly changed around here as a result of COVID protocols…and Boomer & Gio had some fun with that in a trip down memory lane on Tuesday.
Remember Frederic Weis, the Knicks' first-round pick in 1999 who never ended up suiting up at MSG? Well, his biggest contribution to history is being posterized by Vince Carter at the 2000 Olympics – but here at WFAN, his high-water moment was messing up a station ID he was asked to do at the event:
On Tuesday morning, more than 20 years later, it was Gregg Giannotti, king of scuttlebutt, who got the scoop on how it happened.
"Sweeny Murti is listening right now and texted me confirming it: he was at the Sydney Olympics and he is the one wrote down 'Sports Radio 66.' It was Sweeny's handwriting for the Frederic Weis liner, which goes down in WFAN history," Gio said about the flub.
And the source of the flub was flabbergasting to the guys.
"We sent Sweeny to the Australia Olympics?" Jerry asked incredulously.
"Things have certainly changed around here," Gio said, and Al brought back in the final zinger: "He doesn't even go to Yankees road games anymore!"
